Hi, I'm Christian

Katie and Ryan’s wedding at the Whalehead Club in Corolla felt like something out of a dream, but not in a floaty, Pinterest-y way. It was bright, windy, emotional, funny, and just full of heart. Every detail felt like them. Every moment had a vibe.

A Historic OBX Wedding Venue

The Whalehead Club sits in Historic Corolla, North Carolina, and it’s kind of unbeatable. You’ve got this big old Art Nouveau mansion on the sound, a massive open lawn, and golden OBX light that just makes everything look cinematic. It’s coastal and romantic but in a grounded way. Not too fussy. Just right.

As a candid film wedding photographer, this venue is exactly the kind of space that lets the day breathe. Every scene is a photo without having to force anything.

If you’re looking for more weddings that blend stunning locations with intentional storytelling, check out this Travis Marina wedding I photographed in San Francisco—it had a similar laid-back, emotional energy in a totally different setting.

Intentional Details That Told Their Story

Katie and Ryan built a wedding that was personal in the best way. Ryan owns an ice cream shop, so they served ice-cream-cone flavored beer. There were vintage matchbox cars as escort cards, and a literal magician walking around during cocktail hour making people laugh and gasp.

For late night snacks? Ice cream sandwiches. Clearly, dessert was a theme, and honestly, we love a commitment to the bit.

The vibe was bright and colorful, and the wind gave everything that slightly wild, not-too-perfect energy. The bridesmaids’ dresses and Ryan’s brown suit looked amazing against the OBX landscape. It was styled, but not stiff. Beautiful, but totally relaxed.

The Whalehead Club Wedding Ceremony With All the Feels

Their ceremony was full of heart. The vows were heartfelt, and you could feel every word. Later, Ryan’s dad, who also played best man, gave a speech that was funny, moving, and one of those moments that people will be talking about for years.

After the ceremony, instead of awkwardly transitioning to the reception, guests followed a live band across the lawn in a second line-style parade. Everyone had a drink in hand, the sky was glowing, and it just felt… right.

If you love the emotional weight and intimacy of film photography, you might also enjoy this Celestine wedding on film I shot in Brooklyn—different coast, same kind of energy.

Party Flow, Vendor Dream Team, and That Sail Tent

The wind was strong that day, but the sail tent from Amaranth & Artifact (@amaranthandartifact) kept the party shaded and comfortable while still letting the scenery shine. Some guests stayed close enough to walk home (stumble home lol), which made the whole evening feel easy and intimate. No stress, no waiting on shuttles. Just pure good energy from start to finish.

Massive love to the vendor dream team who brought the day together. The planner Southern Hospitality OBX (@southernhospitalityobx) kept everything flowing smoothly. Florals by Honeysuckle Events OBX (@honeysuckleevents.obx) added vibrance and romance. And of course, the celebration happened at Whalehead Club, OBX, a venue that feels like home with a view.

A Film Wedding Photographer’s Take on Whalehead Club

The Whalehead Club NC is a total gem if you’re looking for a wedding venue that blends history, nature, and just the right amount of quirk. It’s got space to roam, light that flatters everyone, and views that don’t need much dressing up. Whether you’re planning a wedding that’s whimsical, heartfelt, modern, or vintage, it just works.

If you’re looking for a luxury destination wedding photographer who values moments over perfection and film over filters, let’s talk. Katie and Ryan’s Whalehead Club wedding was a dream to shoot—and I’m ready for more!
